Great ideas, funded in our own hallways

Three grant programs put donations to work: two endowed funds for educators and an enrichment program for students. A committee of board members reviews every application.

Where the funding comes from

The Foundation's brick mark

SLSF Fund

Our flagship endowed fund awards annual grants to K-12 educators who want to bring innovative academic programs into their classrooms and buildings. Built by this community since the Ladders to Literacy campaign, and held at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation.

Carol Martin Fund

Endowed by a Jeffers kindergarten teacher who spent 33 years with our youngest learners, this fund of more than $525,000 awards grants to K-6 educators. Her wish was simple: do what's best for elementary kids in Spring Lake.

Student Enrichment Grants

Launched in 2022, this program funds students directly. With a teacher or staff endorsement, Lakers can apply for support to pursue projects that benefit themselves and their classmates, or to take part in state and national opportunities like conferences and camps.

How it works

From application to celebration

Apply.

Educators and students submit a short proposal describing the idea, who it reaches, and what it costs.

Review.

A committee of board members scores each application against the purpose of its fund.

Funded.

Awards are announced, checks are presented, and the idea goes to work in a classroom near you.
